This is a great card game. It is very easy to learn. It is very similar to Rummy. Many of our friends and their families are now playing Five Crowns. It is addictive.

I teach gifted students from 1st through 5th grade at a public elementary school. I used this for my very youngest students up through second grade and they not only caught on quickly; they immediately saw patterns in the layout of the boxes. The tic-tac-toe idea meant they were competing to complete a row of 3 and were learning basic strategy for when to complete a row; on their own, they noticed and talked out the schemes used to create the rows: i.e. same color, different number, different shapes. I believe this game builds a foundation for comprehension of the combinations that create sets in the traditional Set game. This could be as simple as a matching game, and used to teach vocabulary (diagonal/vertical/horizontal etc.) or be used to familiarize students with schemes used in Set. Further, students of various levels of comprehension enjoyed playing together and drew different lessons from the game.I do wish there were more than one copy of each card. The tokens were very motivational; the girls and boys quickly learned to award themselves with a token when they'd completed a row. I've not yet used the more advanced side with these young students since we just started using this game.

We love the adult version and this is perfect to play with our 13, 14, and special needs 11 year old. Not boring for adults. Super engaging and fun for everyone!!! And just the right length and amount of action for five people.
